At the end of Fellini’s “La Strada”, Anthony Quinn’s brutish Zampanò wanders the beach drunk and alone having rejected the Fool and the Clown. He looks up to the heavens and breaks down in tears realizing he squandered his chance for love and friendship.
Life is full of choices. An old friend told me his story of a love he lost, due to his inability to make a necessary bold move. Poof. The road not taken.
lyrics
Take a roam a stroll a walk
In the garden of ambition
Pay no mind don’t dread don’t talk
Of all that you’ve been missing
Here and now your life unfolds
with mental subdivisions
Theres a chance to plan your path
But don’t hold on to your own predictions
Higher that the circus wire
Your tightrope time is ticking
Hop on up your hungry horse
Don’t let them call you chicken
Seize the day, the night, and get ready for tomorrow
Start anew the moment you
Wash off all of your sorrow
And the fool told the artichoke
Every life has a meaning
Every pebble has a purpose
Every mind a reason
The sun the moon the stars?
How could they be pointless
How could this be nothing
To be in this world
How old is the sun
How high is the sky
How deep is the sea
How did I ever let you get away from me
